Travel diaries - Part 1

I have never been away from my parents and went on a trip for ten days. This was the first time that I ever went on a trip for more than a day with my buddies; with whom I had spent more time than my family during my engineering days. I did all sorts of things for this trip: from going shopping with my mom for warm clothing to video calls with my girls and sending pictures to them of the things I had bought that day. The excitement just kept increasing day by day. Deep within my subconscious mind, I knew this trip was going to be important for me. It was going to help me escape from all my daily thoughts and stress, and I just wanted to relax and enjoy nature.

Few days passed and it was the new year's eve, right before the day we had to depart for the trip. I was a bit stressed about fitting all my clothes into a single trolley bag. After struggling for a few hours, I finally stuffed everything in the bag and spent the rest of the time with my family.

The day had finally arrived. I wasn't excited anymore. There was a slight heaviness in my heart about the fact of staying away from my family for ten days. We booked a cab and started our journey towards Bandra station. During that time, I was listening to all the instructions that were being given to me by my parents about what to and what not to do while on the trip.

After some time, we reached the station and there we met my friends, their parents, and the professors. I could see the tension in all the parents' eyes. It was getting difficult for me to make eye contact with my mom. I tried so hard to control my emotions and acted that I was completely fine. After a while our train announcement was made and we were asked to go the platform. Everyone took their bags and then started walking towards the platform where our train had already arrived. I took my heavy bag and placed it near my seat and helped my friends too. As all our bags were placed, there was still some time for our train to depart. So I leaned from the train door and continuously looked at my mom and brother. None of us uttered a word. We were just glancing at each other. After a while, a moment came when the train horn honked and within 20 seconds the train started moving slowly. My heart was beating so fast and I started waving my hand towards my mom and brother and my eyes were completely watery. It was quite difficult to say goodbye to them. I sat in my place near the window that was allocated to me and started gazing at the outside view with lots of thoughts pondering in my mind. A few hours past, I was completely normal and my excitement was on another level. We played cards, damsharas, antakshari and were up till 3 in the morning. The weather was getting colder and I was shivering a lot. So, I took my blanket and wrapped myself into it.

I saw the sunrise from my window, with my breakfast on my lap, and waited for Delhi to arrive.
